Clownfish Cove has long been a beloved part of the Vancouver Aquarium, a playful, hands-on space where children connect with the marine world through imagination and discovery. When it came time to refresh this cherished gallery, MJY Fabrication was proud to help reimagine it for a new era.
Working in close collaboration with the Aquarium’s exhibit design team, we provided fabrication, design support, and installation for a complete transformation that balances nostalgia with innovation. The renewed space celebrates fun, learning, and connection, all while standing up to the demands of thousands of eager young visitors each year.
Clownfish Cove hadn’t been updated in over a decade, and the project required a full refresh of the base building, exhibits, and interactives, all on a tight schedule.
Installation inside an active Aquarium presented its own challenges, requiring precision coordination, quick problem-solving, and creative adaptability. MJY Fabrication was tasked with ensuring every element met the highest standards of safety, durability, and craftsmanship while maintaining the charm and educational focus that visitors love.
From day one, MJY worked closely with the Aquarium’s design team in a highly collaborative process. We supported design development, provided early cost estimates to help refine scope, and contributed practical construction solutions as timelines evolved.
Our full in-house team, from creative design support and CNC programming to fabrication and on-site installation, brought skill and care to every detail. The use of multiply plywood and plastic laminate was a deliberate choice, offering both visual warmth and exceptional durability suited to heavy public use.
When on-site challenges arose, the team adapted swiftly, drawing on experience and communication to keep the project on track without compromising quality.
The refreshed Clownfish Cove welcomes children and families into a vibrant world of exploration and play. Every custom element, from benches to interactive stations, was crafted with care to engage young minds and withstand years of joyful use.
Beyond the finished product, this project represents what MJY values most: collaboration, creativity, and craftsmanship in service of education and community. The result is not just an updated exhibit, it’s a reimagined experience that connects people to the ocean and to one another.
